The building on Ewaldsgade 7, is originally an old listed property, which we help transform and renovate into The Villa. Throughout the project it was important to preserve the peace that the building exudes and we aimed for a workspace and a design that combined history, modern design and innovation.
Courtyard
Our goal was to create a space with a warm and cozy atmosphere with references to a summer garden that invited people in and immediately made them feel comfortable. From the start we prioritized the pavement. We wanted a warm base with a lot of charisma that would become the core element for the identity of the courtyard and the café. The pavement is handmade Danish bricks which is laid in strips throughout the courtyard. The bricks are laid in to patterns to break down the scale and to visually pull people in from the path that runs along the lakefront. The brown pavement works nicely with the original yellow brick in the old Villa. To keep flexibility high we worked with plants and trees in large pots. The green furniture from Hay stands in contrast to the brown pavement and emphasizes the greenery from around the lakes and in the courtyard.
Café
New restaurant and canteen by the Copenhagen Lakes. Wanting to reflect the qualities of its location, we brought the blue water and lush green trees of Peblinge dossering into the space; creating an atmosphere that invites people to pause whilst passing by. The quality of the light in the restaurant changes throughout the day and with the rythm of the season. The atmosphere shifts from being poetic and light during the day and towards a danish “hygge” at night. During lunch hours the restaurant works as a canteen for the offices in the house.
